Banksy Mac & Post Secret Mac

posted November 9th, 2005 @ 1:15 am by pete in Uncategorized

The Fifteen Seconds of Fame (Warhol Mac) from the other day set me drifting in a couple of different directions…

First up, Andy Warhol’s repetitive aesthetic pleases me. Art is always cooler when it’s either (a). really really big, or (b). really really repetitive. So I asked myself, ‘who is carrying dear Andy’s torch into the 21st century?’ … and soon arrived at Banksy, everyone’s favourite art terrorist. Thus, the Banksy Mac.

Secondly, at around the same time I observed that bOINGbOING was the biggest blog in the blogosphere, I noticed the amazing Post Secret was second. Hence, the Post Secret Mac.

The Banksy Mac template is here: pdf; The Post Secret Mac template is here: pdf. Go and make them. Now.

Credits. Images on the Banksy Mac are from a little book he self-published a few years ago called ‘Banging Your Head Against a Brick Wall’. Images on the Post Secret Mac are from the 30.10.2005 update, and this more permanent collection at defunktion. All are used without permission

Seems I underestimated the power of the swarm:

Unfortunately, the main site for this story has succumbed to the oppressive weight of the click-happy Internets, but BoingBoing still has a picture and a snippet of info up about it…(tuaw.com)

Anyway, site is back up, and the paper mac pdfs are now hosted at the wonderful ourmedia.org, the spring chicken nestled under the wing of the mighty internet archive. Support ourmedia.org. They do good things.

I have two more paper macs on the way. Both inspired by my previous post. They will rock your nuts**.

** Disclaimer: Your nuts may not actually rock. In fact, you may not even have any nuts. I cannot be held responsible for this.

Fifteen Seconds of Fame (Warhol Mac)

Fifteen minutes is probably unrealistic in our media saturated times, but 15 seconds is still doable. So, in commemoration of our recent bOINGbOINGing, (which is, after all, “the biggest blog in the blogosphere“), I bring you Fifteen Seconds of Fame (Warhol Mac):

State of the Union

Campaign poster from the recent student guild elections:

See, it’s funny because the platform - better communication - is being communicated in such crazy-international-student-pidgin-engrish. I say ‘crazy’ because Euntaek has a wild, wild look in his eyes. Maybe he’s the shake-up the union so badly needs?

Proof — Pudding.

So, my house monkey has been sculpting heads. This is the latest:

Nothing unusual about that, you may think … EXCEPT IT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE OUR LAST PROPERTY MANAGER, TRACEY WILSON! See:

Look! Crudely photoshop a curly mop on it, and they’re indistinguishable:

Piss Mac

posted November 5th, 2005 @ 12:45 am by pete in Uncategorized

Based on Piss Christ by “controversial” US photographer Andres Serano. The crucifix was made from a bunch of CC photos at flickr. The ‘piss’ was scanned from my copy of this book.

Please do not hit me with a hammer, or attempt to kick me with your foot. It’s only ‘art’.

Hi Sue. Can you please notify the relevant people that there is no toilet paper in the mens toilet on level 3, above the office? Thanks much. pete.

well, I suppose we shouldn’t be shitting on work time anyway !!

See, it’s a reference to the recent string of emails from above about ‘personal use’ of the internet on work time. That’s why it’s funny. Laugh now.
